IMHO, this kid's a little jerk. The book made me laugh a couple of times, and it will be easy to booktalk.

There are now at least 15 titles in this series. The one major redeeming quality is that non-readers are usually willing to read these books. The drawings, simple text, and offbeat scenarios are appealing to lots of middle schoolers. I personally don't like them, but I'm grateful that Kinney has put out so many books that are appealing to tweens and some teens.

I don't know why I keep reading these. Greg Heffley is such an egocentric jerk. But in some weird way, it's entertaining. Greg tries to get a date to the dance. He ends up going with Rowley and a girl, trying to leave Rowley out of it.

I'm torn. Greg is such a repulsive child - lazy, selfish, rude, etc. Yet these books are so delightfully written (with the exception of #2) that I really do enjoy reading them. There are moments of such pure honesty that Greg, Rowley, and their families are endearing. This summertime experience makes a fun read!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw

I had to read book three (brand new) before checking it out to my students! How delightful! Even though Greg is a little stinker, the book rings true in many regards. I enjoyed this one as much as book one in the series, and waaaay more than book two. What fun!

Greg's mom thinks it's time for him to do his own laundry. His dad wants him to be more manly, like his boss's kids. Greg just wants to be a kid.

Not quite as funny as the first book, this is a middle-school pleaser! The kids love these wimpy kid books (with illustrations, big print, & lots of white space). This is a funny book, with some genuine observations about middle school and brother relationships.
